Ferrosilicon production
Gear driven conveyor – use the selection of gears to connect the hand crank drive to the conveyor to raise the quartz, carbon and iron (represented by different coloured balls) into the electric arc furnace.
Electric arc furnace – pedal the cycle generator to make electricity to power the furnace and produce ferrosilicon and silicon. Balls are agitated within an illuminated chamber when powered. The ferrosilicon and silicon is tapped from the bottom of the furnace and sent up to two elevated hoppers.
Uses – the balls drop through flexible ducting to the ‘Uses’ games. The Ferrosilicon balls fall through a Galton board arrangement with a few flaps that can be used to divert the randomly falling balls towards the highlighted ‘use’. At the same time the Silicon balls fall into a pinball style arrangement with flippers at the bottom that can be used to flip the balls away from incorrect ‘uses’. A comparison between the success of each game can be made before the balls are sent back through the furnace.
